As a Rights Respecting School we are continuing to learn about the rights and lives of children throughout the world and to explore the whole school Big Question, ‘Who do I want to be?’. Through our whole school theme, ‘Our Future Starts HERE’, we continue to focus on turning learning into action in our community and beyond.
We will begin the year by sharing who we are and finding out about the other children in the class. We’ll be looking at
what makes each of us different based on what we like, who our families are and where we live. We will then move on
to finding out about different pets and how we care for them. We would like to invite parents in to share stories, food
and items from their home cultures later this term so the children will be able to experience the diversity of our community
In English this term, we will make class books about our school and where we and our families are from. We will learn to tell our class stories using and developing our oracy skills. We will write names each morning, practising our cursive letter formation. Our key stories this term will be ‘So Much’ and ‘Six Dinner Sid’.
In Maths, we will be learning new number songs and rhymes, counting to 10 and 20. We will be recognising and ordering numbers to 20 e.g. door numbers, birthdays, days of the week, months of the year. We will start to use the language of size e.g. big, medium, small, bigger, smaller. We will measure ourselves and our friends to find out how tall we are.
