Embodying Mathematics

Last Friday, Victoria and Shane from ‘Complicite’, a theatre company in Kentish Town, came to deliver an ‘Embodying Mathematics’ workshop to year 4 and 5. The children enjoyed working as an ensemble to learn about factors and multiples through physical activities, such as jumping in groups of 2,3,4 and 5 to then discuss the related patterns between numbers. This workshop definitely reinforced the idea that Maths is not only about calculations in books, but also about using our bodies, movement and the space around us to help us understand mathematical concepts.
