1918 in Year 1

When Year 1 arrived at school they found their classrooms had travelled back in time 100 years to 1918.
The children were separated into girls and boys, experiencing different PE lessons and different activities in the classroom. Sewing and watercolour painting for the girls, map reading and construction for the boys.

We learnt a lot about schools during World War One. Teachers were very strict and children had to sit at desks facing the front of the classroom copying from a blackboard. We also found out that some schools had bomb drills during the war, where children had to hide under their desks.

What a way to start our World War One learning!
