We are very pleased to share the exciting news that we have been selected to become an Ashoka Changemaker school. The Ashoka Foundation forms a worldwide network of organisations dedicated to developing new ideas to help improve society. There are currently only 10 Ashoka schools in England and 180 in the world. Click here for more information.
We continue to raise awareness about the Global Goals in this term’s theme Planet 50:50. The children will reflect on the role of gender in the efforts to make our world a better place for everyone; in shaping our future girls and women must not be left behind.
Torriano Primary School has been chosen to embark on an exciting project with the UK Space Agency! Two kilograms of rocket seeds are bound for the International Space Station. The seeds will return to Earth via a quick dip in the Pacific Ocean in spring and then be sent to the school. We will grow 100 seeds, make predictions and compare our results with other schools via an online database. Watch the blast off video again here.
On September 25th 2015 world leaders committed to the Global Goals for Sustainable Development to achieve 3 extraordinary things in the next 15 years. End extreme poverty. Fight inequality and injustice. Fix climate change. Torriano Primary took part in the World’s Largest Lesson, teaching our pupils about these goals and helping them to become the generation that ‘changed the world’.
The final phase of the Active Spaces project is complete after a year’s programme of building works! The new Community Kitchen is a wonderful addition to the ‘Earth Kingdom’, providing a special place to grow, cook and play for our children and families. We look forward to developing food technology as part of our Science and Healthy Schools’ curriculum and to hosting many community events.
Primary Talk is a programme supporting the communication development of primary aged children. Torriano Primary has recently received Level 1 accreditation in recognition of our skills and dedication to provide communication-supportive environments that develop the speech and language skills of all children.
