We are proud to announce that in January, Torriano answered a special request from UNRIC in Brussels. They asked our children to contribute to the development of an online board game about the Sustainable Development Goals. In acknowledgement of our support for this project we have been made a major partner of UNRIC France.
On the 19th September 2016, Torriano took part in the World’s Largest Lesson; teaching our pupils about the goals and helping them to become the generation that ‘changed the world’. Young people everywhere were encouraged to ‘invent, innovate and campaign’ in order to help make the Goals a reality by 2030.
A warm welcome from the Torriano 2016-2017 team, on the Earth Kingdom in the Key Stage 2 playground. More information regarding staff members will be available on the school website soon. Year group information can be found in the ‘Meet the Teacher’ presentations here.
In March, the children curated an exhibition to raise awareness about the Global Goals for Sustainable Development. They communicated their learning through Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths – STEAM! Click here to view the case study.
We are very pleased to share the exciting news that we have been selected to become an Ashoka Changemaker school. The Ashoka Foundation forms a worldwide network of organisations dedicated to developing new ideas to help improve society. There are currently only 10 Ashoka schools in England and 180 in the world. The final phase of the Active Spaces project is complete after a year’s programme of building works! The new Community Kitchen is a wonderful addition to the ‘Earth Kingdom’, providing a special place to grow, cook and play for our children and families. We look forward to developing food technology as part of our Science and Healthy Schools’ curriculum and to hosting many community events.
